Armand Marseilleof Sonneberg and Koppelsdorf, Thuringia, Germany was one of the worlds largest and best known bisque doll head manufacturers. The founder was born in 1856 in St. Petersburg, Russia the son of an architect and immigrated to Germany with his family after 1860. In 1884 he bought the toy factory of Mathias Lambert in Sonneberg and in 1885 acquired the porcelain factory of Liebermann & Wegescher in Koppelsdorf . . . and his empire in the doll world began.

From 1900 to 1930 it\'s reported Marseille produced 1,000 bisque doll heads a day, they made bisque head baby, children, lady and character dolls, on cloth, kid or composition bodies, most with glass eyes, some with painted eyes, with the most commonly found doll molds of370(shoulder head on a cloth or kid body) and390(socket head on a composition body). Marseille interestingly didnot produce the body of their dolls, but purchased those from other doll manufactures.

In 1919Ernst Heubachand Marseilles merged and formed the United Porcelain Factory of Koppelsdorf (Vereinigte Koppelsdorf Porzellanfabrik vorm Armand Marseille and Ernst Heubach). By 1932 the two companies went their separate ways.

Here, I am saleing a beautiful Armand Marseille doll.

On the back of the bisque/porcelain head it reads: \"Armand Marsaille\" Then \"390n. underneath that. There are two holes in this area, which are intentional (used in the head\'s construction, I believe). The it reads \"Germany\" and under that it reads, \"A.G.M.\"

This beauty is approximately 24 inches in length and appears to have her original clothes. (I would guess the blond wig of gorgeous ringlets has been replaced within the past 30 years. Also her shoes and socks are likely not original. However, everything else from her pantaloons to her slip, to her skirt to her blue vest and lace collar, flower brooch pin in a gold inlay, and underdress appear to be from the early part of the 1900s. She has a pretty painted smile showing teeth, lovely rosy cheeks and painted on eyelashes and eyebrows. I believe her blue eyes are made of glass. Her joints of her (I think they\'re some sort of composition material) legs and arms work and connect well.

I don\'t know much else about her. My grandmother (who would have turned 100 this year, God bless her) had her for many years on a chair in the guest bedroom in a smoke-free home. Don\'t know where she got the doll or how long she owned it.

A couple of \"flaws\" to mention: there is a stain on her slip from long ago and it looks like there is about an inch-long mend on it. The lace of her collar is yellowed.

Please feel free to ask any questions. I\'ll try to answer them.
