Charming, Vintage Esther Hunt SculptureDescription and Item Information
Up for sale is this beautiful, vintage Esther Hunt Lotus Bud sculpture or bust. Please excuse the glare in the photos. This beautiful polychrome painted chalk bust depicts a young Chinese girl. This piece weighs 2 pounds 4.0 ounces, unpacked. It is about 7 inches tall, 5 7/8 inches long, and 3 inches wide. This would be a fine addition to a collection of vintage chalkware figurines.Identification
This piece is marked beneath, \"Esther Hunt\" and \"Lotus Bud.\" It is also marked, \"Esther Hunt\" on the back side. Esther Hunt (1875 - 1951) is a listed, well-known, California artist. Per AskART, Hunt was born in Nebraska, but relocated to California with her family as a child. The family lived first in San Diego County, and then in Los Angeles. Hunt was an artist at the Mark Hopkins Institute in San Francisco beginning in 1901. She financed her education by selling portraits of children of San Francisco\'s Chinatown. Hunt traveled to New York City and Paris, where she was a student of William Merritt Chase. After returning to the United States from Europe, she had studios in Los Angeles (1913 - 1918), San Francisco (1918 - 1926 and 1932 - 1945), Greenwich Village (1927 - 1931) and Santa Ana (1945 - 1951). Hunt is best known for paintings, prints, and chalkware busts of Chinese and Oriental subjects, but she also painted portraits of French children and Native American women and children; she also painted some beach scenes at Laguna.Condition
The bust looks very good overall, with light wear and no cracks. This is being sold as it was found. There is very light wear to the face. There is a 1/8 inch by 1/16 inch flake to the front chest area. Upon close examination, I determined that there may have been some deftly executed touch-ups by a previous owner. I noticed this on the blue areas of the hat, but there could be some touch-ups elsewhere. If so, they are well-done and not easy to detect. There is some flaking and wear to and near the lower edges and base, as shown. Please review the photos, and ask any questions you may have prior to offerding or buying. Before merchandise is shipped to a California address (or picked up or delivered within California), a sales tax of 8% will be collected, unless the buyer provides a valid California resale certificate form by mail (or in person, in the case of pick up or delivery). The resale certificate must be properly filled out in accordance with California Board of Equalization regulations. No exceptions. 2. Payments

The seller is not responsible for the transit time once the merchandise has been accepted by the shipping carrier.
