Offered is a wet plate albumen Civil War Carte de Visite of Captain Samuel W. Clarke. Period ink signed by Clarke on front of print with the words \"Your Friend Sam W. Clarke Capt. 2nd Me Cavalry\". Clarke was originally commissioned Capt., Co. H, 21st ME 10/62; m/o 8/63; re-enlisted as Capt., Co. E, 2nd ME Cav. 12/63; m/o 12/6/65.
CDV is from the Tom MacDonald Maine Civil War CDV Collection.
The 2nd participated in raids to Marianna, Fla., and Pollard, Ala. They also participated in the campaign which resulted in the capture of Mobile, and opened up the State of Alabama to the Union forces.
Minor wear to the corners & edges with some noted light dings or rounding. Some foxing and or staining front and verso. A few nicks noted on the mount front and back with two very tiny pinholes at top of mount. Print shows some light nicks or scratches, otherwise light wear. Solid autograph with some oxidation. Nice signed period CDV.
