Biography:
Raphael Abecassis, Moroccan Israeli (1953 - ): Raphael Abecassis has worldwide recognition as one of the new generation of Israeli artists. He was born in Marrakesh, Morocco and grew up in Israel where he lives today. He studied art as a young man at the College of Education in Beersheva. He went on to win the coveted national competition for the official poster of Israel\'s Independence Day celebrations in 1986 and 1991. Raphael Abecassis has a unique one of a kind style working as a master in the decoupage medium, he is one of the most original and distinctive masters creating art today. Each of his creations tells a story drawing on the rich history of Jewish tradition using Jewish symbols, sephardic motifs, Biblical verses, religious imagery, and modern composition into a well harmonized bold celebration of color. He has been exhibited in many museums and galleries in Israel, the United States, Europe and Canada. He has toured the world with his \"Odyssey of Spanish Jews\" exhibit in 1992. He also toured the world with his \"Jerusalem 3000\" exhibit celebrating Israel\'s anniversary in 1996. The artist works in a variety of media including paintings, serigraphy, ceramic, embroidery, silver and stained glass windows. Raphael Abecassis is a master of modern Jewish art. People love his wonderful use of glorious colors and his whimsical storytelling style.
