A great artist from North East Arnhem Land - Narritjin Maymura, Mangalili clan, Yirritja moiety, approx (1914-1982). Not only an artist, he was a performer, politician, clan leader, philosopher and entrepreneur, he also believed in the power of art to transcend cultures. He was one of Yirrkala Art Centre\'s main inspiration and founders. His work is held in all major public collections in Australia, Paris, Basel and the US.This fine, small painting of \'Ganyan\' the white sand crab, is painted on eucalyptus bark with natural ochres, there is some paint loss on the cross hatching.
