Thisbark painting shows part of the Woijallegend. The Wild Honey Ancestral Being Woijal lived in the mythical Dreamtime. One day he set out from south central Arnhem Land travelling west with his stone headed spear and spear thrower as seen in the painting. When he saw the bees flying round the tree where thir hive was he cut it down with an axe and put the honey comb in the dily bag he hang round his neck. .When the tree fell it created all the rivers. Woijal is responsible for creating a number of totemic sites. The Woijal mythology is are described in a sequence of songs and paintings like this example.

The background design is not just a pattern but carries a lot of meaning. For example the top and bottom panels represent the boomerangs Woijal took on his travels and is considered a sacred pattern.

The bark was collected in the late 70s It is in very good condition for its age.
