offerding on a new Bolga Bag. This beautiful African handbag was hand woven from
grasses that were dyed with natural plant colors. This Bolga Bag is accent with
a leather handle, with intricate designs. Also has an adjustable strap. This bag
may be used for shopping, as a baby bag, going to the beach, or to work.
Bolgatanga is a major city in Northern Ghana. Bolga bags have been made
here and the surrounding villages for centuries. It was originally made as a
sieve to be used in the production of a local drink called pito and as a market
bag. Outside influences have changed the uses and designs of the Bolga
basket/bag.
Bolga
bags are made of natural tropical grass locally known as elephant grass or the
technical name of “veta vera”.
