This is a rare item--a limited edition numbered \"ornament\" (but could be a pendant with a silk cord put through the hanging loop) made by famed New Orleans jeweler Coleman E. Adler & Sons. depicting a figure from an historical float in the Knights of Momus krewe\'s New Orleans Mardi Gras parade. Momus is one of the most prestigious and elite krewes in New Orleans Mardi Gras history, and was known for its humorous parade themes. Unfortunately the group no longer parades, and instead just has its ball where the krewe members present the debutantes of the season chosen to be queen and maids. This is an ornament that evokes the era when Mardi Gras krewes\' floats were atop wagons pulled by horses, and often the themes of the floats were mythological or historic figures. The ornament is approximately 2 1/2\" long and very heavy. It is made of silvertone metal with gold details. It depicts a jester, and that jester can be seen on the front of the drawing of the float that is on the card included with the ornament. This was a part of Adler\'s series of historical carnival ornaments and memorabilia, fifth series, and is numbered #760. Momus is associated with the Louisiana Club on St. Charles Avenue, and Rex stops there to toast when Rex\'s parade rolls past on Mardi Gras Day. This item is new in the sense that it has never been out of the original box it came in since its purchase; I even had to break the Adler\'s seal to unwrap the tissue paper to be able to take the photo. These are not available any longer, of course, and are almost never on . If you know someone who loves New Orleans, Mardi Gras, or Momus, this is a great opportunity to get them an unusual and rare present, or to add to your own collection.
