You will be offerding on this very nice reel to reel player made by Akai in Japan.

The former owner seems to be a very careful person. This device find in perfect condition.CLEAN And LUBRICATED. Heads are demagnetized.

CAUTION:

Many AKAI\'S for sell do not have the \"CAPSTAN SPEED SLEEVE\" - the chromed bolt that changes the speed and do not exist for sell separately!!

This model operates on two tape speeds: 7-1/2 ips and 3-3/4 ips. The Tape Speed is determined by the size of the capstan. For 3-3/4 ips, unscrew capstan cap by turning it counterclockwise and remove the outer capstan. For the 7-1/2 ips, use the outer capstan.
See the capstan in my pictures. It is located in the center of device close the pinch roller.

The Audio board was completely cleaned and lubed with Deoxit D5 and all electrolytic capacitors, transistors and power supply capacitors on audio/main board works great with no corrosion and no leaking. Everything still are original.

It is assumed that any buyer will understand how these reel to reel recorders operate and the characteristics of recorded tape both new and old. Questions are of course welcome and encouraged as this unit can be complicated to one that is not familiar with reel recorders/players.

This unit does not come with any wires to hookup....it uses standard RCA cables or a DIN connection.

AKAI GX-4000D

This famous Akai set has been in production for many years. It\'s also this model which can be found most in on line-sales and second hand goods websites.
The GX-4000D is again an improved version of the 4000DSMKII but has been equipped with Akai\'s GX heads, which are guaranteed for 150,000 hours of use and also achieved a higher frequency response.
The functions are again similar to those on the earlier 4000-series sets except for an extra \"output\" knob on the front panel and the thoroughly face-lift the GX-4000D has undergone.
Auto shut off is no longer present in the power switch but the motor will be turned off when the tension arm falls down; the VU meter lights remain on. The track selector knob is no longer mounted on the head cover but next to it. The capstan speed change sleeve　is now hidden under the head cover when the lower 3.75 ips speed is used. This head cover can easily be pulled off when the heads need to be cleaned or demagnetized.
I think the mechanics and/or motor of the GX-4000D have been improved as well since the wow and flutter specs have been decreased by 50% according to the earlier 4000DSMKII.
