Akasuke Ginbari \"Basse-Taille\" Cloisonne Vase Pigeon blood Japanese listing presents a GorgeousAkasuke Ginbari \"Basse-Taille\" Cloisonne Vase. The color is called Pigeon blood. It was purchased in the 1950\'s. Embedded within the vase are two birds (Finches, we believe). One is perched on the tree, and the other is flying. Thisvase was never used but was proudly displayed in a curio cabinet in a non-smoking Environment. The original box was discarded many years ago. The bottom of the vase is stamped (above the glaze) with the letters CPO.
C.P.O. = Central Processing Organization and was marked on certain items during the M.I.O.J. period of the Japanese Occupation after WW2. Gen. Douglas Macarthur’s group set it up as a US Army division to get the economy of Japan going after, \"Unconditional Surrender\" on Sept 2, 1945. The nature of a devastating War left little too no metal stocks for manufacturing goods and a destroyed industrial and civilian populations. A formal Technical application process was basically submitted to the CPO office, with draft schematics and material required and amount to be made. Full technical specs were especially required for cameras, mechanically and especially optically. i.e. glass type, refractive index, design, # of elements, etc.,etc. Once approved the materials were acquired from the CPO office and given to the manufacturer. All the models were officially ear marked for Export and No taxes were paid to the Japanese government. That said, this was a really starving period for Japan and gainful employee to get the economy going was the end goal of the CPO office.
The CPO office selected the manufacturers product based on the quality of the design. It was Not an easy process to get approval and the real reason that so many WW2 era Japanese companies went out of business after WW2.
This vase measures approximately 7\" high, and the diameter on top is 2 1/4\". The vase base measures 3\". Comes with a wooden base.
