A deeply philosophical and profound two page letter, 650 words, typewritten and signed A. Einstein. This introspective historical letter to a friend and associate of the Emergency Committee of Atomic Scientists was written by Albert Einstein August 6, 1947, on the day of the second anniversary of thebombing of Hiroshima. Einstein is profound in his plea that mankind seek and expound the truth in \"the discovery and release of the most revolutionary force since the discovery of fire\".

The letter was written to retired U.S. Congressman Roy G. Fitzgerald of Dayton, Ohio (1875-1962). Mr. Fitzgerald was elected to the Sixty-seventh and to the four succeeding Congresses (3/4/21-3/3/31). Mr. Fitzgerald was also President of the Dayton & Montgomery County Historical Societies. This document came from Mr. Fitzgerald\'s collection, much of which was featured in the Sotheby\'s sale of April 1983. Sotheby\'s specifically identified this letter as being authentically signed by Albert Einstein and sold it with two \"typed form letters (one signed the other facsimile) on behalf of the Committee of 1946 and 1947 . . . \" Sotheby\'s by dint of their description, reviewed and understood that there were special letters of Einstein to which he put his hand and others which were printed, and they specifically identified this letter as being one he actually signed. There were various letter-writing, fund-raising campaigns issued by the Emergency Committee of Atomic Scientists; some of those campaigns featured a printed signature by Einstein and some were actually signed. The case with this letter is the latter. The Committee directed their fund raising efforts to the public at large and also did private solicitations to prominent citizens. This letter was part of the private campaign. This letter has been in my collection since August 5, 1983 (31 years). I purchased the letter from The American Museum of Historical Documents in Las Vegas, NV with the Certificate of Authenticity signed by Todd M. Axelrod. The letter is displayed in Mr. Axelrod\'s book, Collecting Historical Documents: A Guide to Owning History (second edition) page 108. In their 35 years established as an autograph dealer they have had the privelege of having one of the largest collections of Albert Einstein in the world, and they have had the privelege of studying the history behind the letters issued by the Emergency Committee of Atomic Scientists signed by Albert Einstein. In December, 2006 myself and Prof. Ronald Petruso (Forensics Course Instructor, Science Department/Delaware Valley College) conducted under high powered microscope a forensic examination of the signature to draw our own opinions and determinations for which are pictured here sample photographs. Certificates of Authentication from The American Museum of Historical Documents (8/5/83) and also STAT Stevens-Taylor Authentication Team (1/31/07).

This is an opportunity to own a most unique historical rarity from Albert Einstein, whose wisdom of genius found expression through thought, word, and action.
