My father was a career English professor at Va. Tech. His passion was collecting rare books, signatures. and manuscripts. A used book store was his candy store. After he retired almost 20 years ago, he openedan online bookstore, Summerlee Books, that is no longer in operation. He sold manyrarebooks and manuscripts around the globe. This book and letter were purchased as authenticfrom a used book store in Chapel Hill, NC. He does not remember exactly when but was probably during the 1990s.The detailed photos of the signatures, along with the original envelope with postmark, should help show the authenticity of this listing.

Alice Adams (1923-1999), American novelist and short story writer, grew up in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, but spent most of her career in San Francisco. She wrote eleven novels, but was most widely admired for her short stories, of which she published more than twenty-five in the New Yorker and later in collections like Beautiful Girl (1979),To See YouAgain (1982), Return Trips (1985) and After You\'ve Gone (1989).Her papers were purchased and are now maintained by the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center of the University of Texas, Austin. Her few letters not in the research collection come available only rarely, especially long letters to intimate friends such as this one.
