The following item is perhaps one of the nicest copies of \"Alphabetical Index of Maine Volunteers, Etc\" from 1867 that you will ever come across. It is in near fine condition and is complete with all 1211 pages. This copy also has the original clothing binding on the spine in brown as they were published. The covers are in very good condition and are solidly attached. The string binding holding the book together is very solid. At some point it looks like someone had the idea to bind this copy as there are 3 hole punches inside the first 600 pages and then stops as they changed their mind. It is no way affects the text. Besides the light browning and a couple of spots to the cover, this copy is near fine as it must have been put away a long time ago. Most copies are very loose with either one or both covers missing. You will not come across a better copy than this one. On page 82 you will even find the name of Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain of the 20th Maine. A great piece of Maine and Civil War History that has been well preserved over the years.
