Up for sale is an excellent Ambrotype photo of a Civil War Soldier holding his hat. Picture is framed in gold colored tin matting in an intricate Union case. The lid of the case has a red velvet interior. The binding has split due to age but both pieces are included in the sale. Absolutelybeautiful piece of history. When picture was removed from frame, I found \"C. Bennett the Original\" written on inside case. Research showed plenty of Bennett and Bennet with different first names starting with \"C\" served during Civil War on Union Side.
Photo is from the Civil War Era and is very unique and rare to find. Case measures about 2 1/4 X 2 7/8 inches.
Please see pictures. I am no expert on these types of photos and they were purchased in an estate sale. I verified they were ambrotypes but did not try to clean the glass. Photo has some wear marks but it appears to be on black painted glass not the actual photo. You are getting the exact item shown, so have confidence in your offerding. Again, I am no expert so I did not try to clean or repair anything just examination.
