Syrian, (Damascus) or Egyptian -dating from the beginning of the 20th century.
A hand constructed brass Qur\'an casket form box. The cover incorporates a pair of ornate copper riveted strap type hinges.A hasp and staple closure to the front face incorporates a small locking tab.
The exterior surfaces are finished with highly intricate and complex chiseled and punched decoration. The decoration incorporates an applied overlay of silver and copper. Shaped cartouches to the cover, front face and two end faces of the base section contain inscriptions - detailed by the additional images.
Internally, this example is lined with the original wood panelling, incorporating an inlaid central medallion to the base - see image 4.Overall size: width - 4 3/8\" (111mm),max depth, (excluding catch/hinges) - 3\" (76mm), height - 2 5/16\" (59mm).
Weight - 381 grams
Condition - Very Good. No dents and no repairs. Fine natural colour and patina.
