Egyptian, (Cairo) -dating from the first half of the 20th century.
A hand constructed brass Qur\'an casket form box - this good example rests on four bracket type feet. The cover incorporates a pair of ornate copper riveted strap type hinges.A hasp and staple closure to the front face incorporates a small locking tab.
The exterior surfaces are finished with chiseled and punched decoration. The decoration incorporates shaped cartouches containing inscriptions to the cover and four vertical faces of the base - detailed by the additional images.
Internally, this example is lined with the original wood panelling - see image 10.Overall size: width - 4 5/8\" (117mm),max depth, (excluding catch/hinges) - 3 1/8\" (79mm), height - 2 11/16\" (69mm).
Weight - 414 grams
Condition - Very Good. No dents and no repairs. Fine natural colour and patina.
