Islamic metalwork -dating from the first half of the 20th century.
A hand constructed brass brush / stylus compartment - the opening incorporating a \'snap-shut\' cover. A cushion form well is mounted behind the covered opening - the well mounted with an ornately hinged cover. A small hinged catch locks the cover in the closed position.
The surface is finished with chiseled and embossed decoration - the decoration of unusual abstract form, incorporating a fish to the well. The brush compartment is embossed in the manner of highly stylised calligraphy - see image 3.Overall length - 9 3/4\" (248mm).
Condition - Good. Natural verdigris. No dents or repairs. Untouched colour and patina - this example shows signs of storage within a damp Environment for a considerable time.
