Ancient Chinese Northern Qi Painted Terracotta Pottery Soldier Figure - 550 AD:
$1000.00
An ancient Chinese Northern Qi dynasty terracotta figure of a warrior, dating to 550 – 577 AD.
Depicted in the traditional attire of a warrior, the figure is shown wearing a close fitting leather helmet, breastplate and upper arm guards decorated in deep redwith long robes underneath. The facial features are particularly sensitively rendered, with incised almond-shaped eyes, thin lips and a broad nose.
With all the statuesque majesty for which the short lived but influential Northern Qi dynasty is famous; the martial spirit of the piece is markedly distinct from the graceful form of its subject. A beautiful and well preserved example from a formative period in Chinese sculptural development.
