The obverse with the head of Medusa shown with protruding tongue, her hair in stylised curls.
The reverse with anchor, crayfish and letter A at sides.
Apollonia Pontica (Appolonia on the Black Sea), was a fishing town, inhabited since the Bronze Age, now known as Sozopol. The crayfish and anchor on the reverse of the coin are obvious indicators of the importance that fishing played to the local economy.
