INCENSE BURNER/AMULET

Piravend/Near East, Central AsiaCa. 9th Century BC.

A truly most unusual piece characterized by the large discus shape body of finely coiled metal with a central hole and open caged back. A small stylized head with pointed top and bird-like nose, small protruding eyes, short delicate legs and wearing a fitted collar necklace. Arms in the form of suspension loops with a third loop strap at back of the head. A purse/jug or similar hangs from the right suspension loop.

Condition: Some of the cross bar cage elements missing; a stabilized hairline down front; right loop secured.

Height: 2-1/2 in. (6.3cm).

Custom mount and base--Overall mounted height 3-1/2 in. (9 cm).
