Up for sale is an amazinglydetailed Persian IslamicBronze with Silver and Copper Inlay Oil Lamp and three piece matching stand.

I purchased this item recently from a Kabul, Afghanistan antique merchant. Please take a close look at thedetails of this Wonderful bronze artifactunearthedin Bamyan province of Afghanistan.

The oil lamp stand itself is 39\" tall. With the oil lamp on the stand, the height is 49\" The diameter of the top where the oil lamp sets is 15\"

This incredibly Beautiful ancient bronze four piece oil lamp is adorned with silver and copper inlay etched and set deep into the bronze. This oil lamp was certainly once used in a very large area such as a mosque due to its sheer size and amazing craftsmanship that would have certainly put this quality of item out of the financial reach of the regular citizen. Adorned with ancient Kufic script from top to bottom, this oil lamp and stand is truly a piece of artwork that will stand out in any setting. When having the three ancient oil lamps in my room at the same time, I felt a bit like Indiana Jones admiring the horde of amazing brilliance. The artisticdesign and Kufic script of this item was prevalent from the 7th to 10th centuries. Kufic script was the firststyle of writing of the Islamic Period and the manifestation of delicacy andbeauty in the art of calligraphy. Developed in the city of Kufa, it becameknown as Kufic script and was used mainly in holy documents, becoming revered as asacred and divine aspect of human expression. Calligraphers were striven tocreate the most decorative and detailed designs possible into this innovativestyle incorporating various artistic designs to symbolize Gods creations intosacred words.

I am deployed to Afghanistan for the next year and have access tothe best, unique, and most valuable antiques found anywhere in theregion. With the present danger here in Afghanistan, the antique shops have all closed and the only remaining place for the population to selltheir family treasures is tothe local antique merchants who in turn cometo us.

Theitems I am listed range in age from 100+ to 1000s ofyears old, on back to Bactria with most being unearthed from remote regions ofAfghanistan.

* I also have availability to ship via U.S. mailsince I am working here with the military!

This piece was unearthed in BamyanProvince of central Afghanistan. Amazingly all four pieces were discovered together and that the oil lamp even retained the hinged lid. (I am including one photo of this item prior to its painstaking restoration to its originaldazzlingbeauty. Looking at that photo shows how this item was first shown to me in the home of the antique shop keeper with dirt still packed into thecrevices.

The exact origin of this oil lamp encompasses not only Afghanistan, but themodern nations of Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Iran,Iraq and China.

This istrulya distinctive culturalartifact and something to passed on from generation to generation.

Specialized Bronze artisans produced items such as this for the ruling class, aristocrats, and elites since an item of this quality was well out of reach for the working class.

* Patterns in Islamic artifactsnormally take one of three different forms: vegetal, or curving vines, oftencalled arabesques; calligraphic verses, usually from the Quran; and geometricshapes. Instead of representing something specific, as a symbol would inWestern art, patterns in Islamic architecture are meant to represent abstractconcepts related to Islam and encourage people to think about the impermanenceof the physical world and the unity and nature of God.
