Document signed (DS) \"Andrew Johnson\" AS PRESIDENT, April 18, 1865, partly-printed document signed just three days after being sworn in as President upon the death of Abraham Lincoln, one page, vellum, 19x15.5, Washington. Appointing William O. McDonald as Surgeon of Volunteers, countersigned by Secretary of War Edwin Stanton. Blue War Department seal is intact at upper left.

Manuscript portion is light but legible. Part of Johnson\'s first name is light, but the \"A-n\" is darker, as is \"Johnson.\"
