Low Sulfidation Epithermal - Geothermal (Hot Spring/Geyser/Smoker) Au/Ag ore zone
From Randolph County, North Carolina
This material estimated to be between 540 to 630 million years old and part of a recently discovered in situ system
Rare quartz form known under various names - Angle Plated Quartz, Boxwork Quartz, Bladed Quartz, Lattice Quartz, Epithermal Quartz Texture
A rare crystalline quartz form that is found at the 100-200 meter depth level, \"bladed zone\", and within top of main ore chamber of a low sulfidation epithermal gold-silver lode deposit, i.e. a geothermal system (geyser, smoker, hot spring). While system is active, calcite and/or barite are precipitated via open space filling and then later replaced or cast with silica fluids. Eventually most or all of calcite and/or barite are decomposed into clays leaving cast voids and druzy crystal linings, a \"geode-like\" structure. Gold ocurrs along with these stones and probably a tiny bit of microscopic Au somewhere in the stone. Fine druzy crystals occur in/on this material.
