- Open Hearth Sawtooth Fireplace Trammel -

DESCRIPTION

A handsome and very early open hearth fireplace trammel from America\'s Colonial Period, mid to late 1700\'s. This type of trammel was used on a lug pole inside the fireplace. The ring at the top of the trammel fitted over the pole and the trammel was adjusted to the required length for holding a cooking pot. This one can be extended to a full 37\".

Fine well shaped sawtooth work and nice curled turnings to the ends of the trammel rods with good evidence of wear overall. Good and heavy and sturdy and strong in perfect working condition. The patina to the hand forged iron work is untouched, left as we found it with plenty of heat pitting from use at the fire and rust. Weigh 2 lbs.

Size: Fully Extended it is 37\" long - closes down to 26-1/2\" - 2-3/4\" ring diameter

CONDITION

Overall in Excellent Condition.

We have left this just as found.

Still strong and Sturdy!
