The gown is not without issues, but it would be great for a stage presentation or Civil War Re-enactment. I believe due to the dropped sleeve this is was made during or close to the Civil War. Perhaps 1860 to 1875. No way for me to be sure. It is also very large and may have been worn by a woman at the height of her pregnancies. There are 2 V- shaped inserts on the sides at the bottom, which gives it more volume. I cannot find what looks like a machine stitch anyplace on this garment. The stitches are so tiny, as to be almost invisible. I even looked through a magnifying glass.
As stated, it is extra large: It is 23\" from drop sleeve to drop sleeve - to the point where the gathering on the sleeves starts. The sleeves measure 19\" from point of attachment under the arms, to the bottom of the cuffs. 50\" around the chest when measured just under the arms. 57\" around the waist area. 70\" around the hip area. The circumference around the bottom is a whopping 87\". It measures 57\" down the center of the back.I would say only one button is original. Most are tiny flower shaped ones. Issues:
1. Lace at the back of the collar is coming loose in 2 places, both of which are about 1/4\". Each to repair.
2. A couple of tiny, tiny holes under the collar, on the back.
3. A few tiny dark spots on the button placket, just under the front collar.
4. 2 pinpoint dark dots on cuff of right sleeve.
About all these dark spots - they are grayish in color. I think they were ink from a fountain pin. Most are pale now, having been washed many, many times over, I am sure.
5.2 gray spots on right front - about 1/2\" long, together and 1/2\" wide. There are 4 pinhead size spots on the same side, spaced far apart.
6. Small place on the back, about 5\" under the collar, where the fabric is almost worn through - about 1/8\". There is another dark spot of about 1/4\" about 16\" from the collar, down the middle of the back.I don\'t think I have missed anything. Glad to answer questions. Priority Shipping is $5.00.
