Antique 1880-90 Eastlake Armchair w/ Hand Carving Needs Upholstering Victorian:
$165.00

Neat old antique Eastlake armchair w/ many types of elaborate hand carving all over. Need upholstery. Very good condition. The Eastlake period was from appx. 1880-1890...Roughly speaking this style became popular in the US right after the Victorian style waned (or you could say late Victorian) and immediately preceding the Mission / Arts & Crafts / Stickley era (1900-1915).
Condition: Very good. Misc. edge wear and some nicks, marks, etc. but pretty good overall. The finish is mostly intact but worn, faded or missing in some areas...could be restored rather than stripped and refinished. Has a few tack holes where they shouldn\'t be and there is one spot on the front of the backrest (at the bottom left of the upholstered back panel) where there is some wood wear that would need to be filled and touched up (see photos).
Size: 29\" wide, 28\" deep, 25\" deep measured at the arms (front of armrest to back of back post), 36\" tall.

The Eastlake Movement was an American nineteenth-century architectural and household design reform movement started by architect and writer Charles Eastlake (1836–1906). The movement is generally considered part of the late Victorian period in terms of broad antique furniture designations.

His book Hints on Household Taste in Furniture, Upholstery, and Other Details posited that furniture and decor in people\'s homes should be made by hand or machine workers who took personal pride in their work. Manufacturers in the United States used the drawings and ideas in the book to create mass-produced Eastlake Style or Cottage furniture.

The geometric ornaments, spindles, low relief carvings, and incised lines were designed to be affordable and easy to clean; nevertheless, many of the designs which resulted are artistically complex.

Insured shipping via Greyhound Package Express is $165 (includes cost of custom box).
