Truly exquisite antique demitasse set.Eight (8)cup and saucer sets.From my grandmother\'s estate.She passed away a few years ago at age95.
Clearly marked on the bases of both the cups and saucers. My research dates this set to 1892. It shows the Doulton Burslem Coronet mark in use from 1886-1902 on Doulton\'s more expensive wares. It also is marked England which was added in 1891. The Doulton & Slaters Patent was added in 1885. There are also hand painted numbers \"C 4368\" which dates this specific set to 1892. I am not an expert, so if the exact date matters to you, please do your own independent research.I can try to describe them, but really how can one do better than the photos! They are the same size and shape and colors, but the floral designs differ from set to set. Saucers measure 4 1/2\" in diameter, demitasse cups are 2 1/2\" rim to rim, plus the handle. Gold edges are scalloped. Handle islike a little branch.Saucer background is creamy white with butter yellow soft border featuring tiny gold and white flowers. In between the white and yellow is a design that looks like sprayed gold, which it also seen on the inside top edge of the cups.Featured floral design is a cobalt or navy blue with raised gold detailing.CONDITION: Given their considerable age, 7 cups and 7 saucers are in outstanding condition. No chips or cracks. One has the tiniest littlerough spoton the underside of the rim, perhaps a pin size fleabite.Minimal wear, if any. The8th set has some issues. The cup has a hairline crack, very visible on the inside and slightly visible on the outside and the saucer has crazing and discoloration (yellowing in a few spots). Please see photos of the issues.
