Up for consideration is a beautiful antique late 1898 or 1899bustle skirt and matching jacket walking suit. Hasprettyjet black beading on bottom of skirt. Ruffle at bottom has black lace. back lace is good. Front lace is shredded in sections. Needs to be repaired or replace. Skirt waist band has all hook and eyes. One has broken away but is still attached.Skirt has some staining. Lining is starting tobreak down in skirt. This skirt is heavy.Inside waist band has on each side A fabric band sewn in to hang skirt.Inside jacket has all hook and eyes and 2 ties on each side to tighten. Jacket has boning and weights at bottom points of jacket. Also has 2 rows of hook and eyes to tighten for corset. There arealso some snaps. Jacket hasMutton sleeves.Some hand sewing and also machine on these 2 pieces. Do not know what type fabric this is. It has a nape and feels a little rough to the touch. Color is a dark Taupe or even a greyishwith the black accents. Back has black cording on the jacket. The pictures do not do this piece justice. Comes with a letter from the owners relative. This dress was worn by a Roanoke college alumni in the late 1890\'s. They had tried to give this outfit to college hoping it had a museum in 1971. Letter will be included in this sale.

Fits very fitted and small.

Jacket measures shoulder to shoulder 12 inches.

Armpit to armpit 19 inches.

Measures 16 inches top to bottom at middle point.

Skirt has several hooks and eyes and can be adjusted.

Measures 29 inches around.

38 inches long in front of skirt.

Back longer train measures 46 inches long. Needs cleaning has been stored a long time. For repair, study, display, repurpose ( inwich would be a shame) or to wear if repaired.
