This late 18th or possibly early 19th century door latch lock box comes from my own primitives collection which I have accumulated for 40 years. These are called German Spoon Latches and they are only found in homes in the SouthEastern counties of PA which were settled by the Germans such as our home. This is a piece that we ended up not needing in our home restoration. It is made of both cast iron and wrought iron and measures 4 3/4\" wide, 6\" tall and 1\" deep. It is in functional working order including the dead bolt. It also has it\'s 4 3/4\" tall and 1 1/4\" wide strike plate which has a 3\" by 1 1/8\" opening. There is part of a leather piece which was used as a washer behind the bolt (Photo # 7). It is in good condition with the expected age appropriate wear of scratches and the typical very light surface rust to the iron. This would make an excellent addition to your early iron collection or for restoration in your Early American home.
