In Asian philosophy, sharing abundance with others creates space for even greater achievements. A textile collector with a lifelong interest in late 19th and early 20th century fabrics, linens, buttons, and trims, I am offering many varied delights from my collection to make way for a studio renovation. Check back often to see what new treasures I have unearthed from my textile palace.
Although textiles and related materials are one of my great loves, I also work full time and have significant family responsibilities so I am sometimes away from my computer, but will respond to any communications as quickly as possible.

I accept returns within 14 days of your receipt of item as long as it is returned in original condition. This Special Offering: This is an amazing piece that I obtained from a textile dealer in upstate New York from her personal collection. It is made from printed heavy canvas like fabric which I think is a cotton, and it has a slightly ribbed weave. From believe that this is \"Gobelein\" weave. The printed fabric is the stitched to a similar weight plain cotton or cotton linen blend fabric that is about 10 inched wide. This cotton piece has been removed from the top. I thought it was an amazing charming piece with an idealized medieval woman figure and flowers repeated in the pattern throughout. It was used as a curtain or wall hanging or a portiere across a door to keep out the drafts. When I was photographing for the listing, I noticed that the signature \"Mucha\" is included along the bottom of part of the design. It is his \"Woman with a Daisy\" pattern (La Femme a Marguerite) and it was only produced as a textile. One version was roller printed on cotton in three color ways (this example is one with a light background and more pastel colors. It was intended to be used in folding screens or as in this example, combined with other fabric to give it enough width to be a curtain or portiere. It was designed by Mucha in 1898 and printed as a textile around 1900. The cloth was manufactured by Scheurer Lauth et Cie (the same manufacturers that produced the cloth in the sample book I have listed separately) and several samples are included in museum and design collections such as the Chicago Museum of Art, the Rhode Island School of Design collection, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and the Alphonse Mucha museum in Prague. This means that this is an original fabric rendition of an Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939) print contemporaneous to his wild public popularity from the 1890s through the turn of the 19th century. In addition to this research, I believe the fabric used was produced in the ea1900 (vice the 1920s) because of the dye fading (the original colors were more pastel browns and greens and pinky reds with some golden yellow thrown in!) and because coronation cord, that Victorian dressmaking and household linen decor of choice was used around some of the edges to form a floral decoration in the Art Nouveau style. This is an original print not a reproduction. It has been well loved and in addition to the fading has various stains, smudges, and some fraying and edge tears. But that adds to its charm at least for me, but do not buy this if you want perfection. I have debated passing this along to a fellow collector as this is highly collectible, so unusual, and so romantic and an original Alphonse Mucha print contemporaneous to the artist himself! I do want to make room for my studio renovation so I have reluctantly added it to the \"list\" pile! Buy it quickly before I change my mind! Note that the dappling effect is from taking photos in the shade under a tree. This was a hard piece to photograph, but I tried to capture it\'s charm and flaws.
This is a large item so I will ship it in a medium flat rate box with some additional surprises--shipping cost is discounted for the buyer as a medium flat rate box is over $11.
Condition; Fabric is evenly faded with frays on edges particularly at top end where header was removed along with a few pea sized or smaller wear spots, smudges, rust marks, and stains, some, but not all appear in photos, Coronation cord design at edges and along seam line where fabric is joined to border fabric; So this is not perfect and has been well loved and used by probably several generations! Obviously there was some sentimental value attached to it as it was saved all these years! This is not a smelly textile and came to me relatively clean, but I have not washed it. Size is a 52 inches wide by 96 long. Fabric print is approximately 30 inched wide.
Don\'t miss out on this rare signed Alphonse Mucha wall hanging. From my smoke-free studio!
