A wonderful early 19th century New England sampler, done by Elizabeth Dodd in the year of our Lord 1834, Aged 11. The origin of this early sampler is possibly New York, as there was a Elizabeth Dodd born in Brooklyn in the early 1820\'s. It has the alphabet in upper & lower case letters starting from the top. Below this is a wonderful double heart border & then initials done in different color threads, probably relatives & important people in this young girls life. Under the initials is another border done in a different type of stitching & then it reads: Done by Elizabeth Dodd in the year of our Lord 1834? Aged 11. The bottom has several types of colorful trees, a few urns, a basket of flowers & potted flowers with berries & hearts. There are a total of nine different types of borders in this sampler, obviously done by a talented young girl. It is in excellent condition for its age, the colors are very bright. It has a few small holes, minor thread loss & some light staining. This incredible early American sampler measures 9 3/4\" wide by 12 1/2\" tall without the frame & 13 1/4\" wide by 16\" tall with the frame.An excellent piece of early American needlework, offered with !
