This is a stunningly beautiful cross measuring 6.8 cm in length and 3.8 cm in width. It has a mount made from a yellow metal, possibly brass that seems to have the remains of silver plat in areas. The saphirets are exceptional as can be seen and are in great condition, there are a few minute nibbles and scratches- but none worthy of mention. The colour is gorgeous, it varies in different light but the colours range from a deep red to bright aquamarine.Saphiret was made in Czechoslovakia by mixing melted gold with glass- it stopped being made because the rising price of gold made it too expensive to produce. It was made from the mid 19th century- I think that this is a late 19th century example.This is a fabulous example, really beautiful and such a large size- the long saphiret at the bottom measures 2.8 cm in length, they are of course set with open backs so they catch the light really effectively.I am selling many great things this week.
