Extremely rare and fantastically bound 1898 edition of \"The Form of Daily Prayers, According to the Custom of the German and Polish Jews. With a New Translation in Prose and Verse\" by Henry A. Franklin. 1898, fifth edition. Published by J. Kauffman, Vienna, Jos. Schlesinger, Library.

Alternating pages of Hebrew and English translation.

Appears to be cloth binding, spine lined in a red velvet. Covers edged in a beautiful brass with ornamentation along spine. Closes with ornate brass clasp. Front cover features beautiful bas relief using what appears to be mother of pearl and celluloid or Bakelite. A crown sits above a brass Ten Commandments set in relief against red velvet. Mother of pearl secured with tiny brass nails. Back cover white celluloid, edges in brass.

This is a BEAUTIFUL book, I haven\'t seen any like it. Any earlier edition is featured in an AbeBooks article on metal bound books and other unusual bindings.

Appears to be a named provenance inside the first pages.

629 pp. Some damage to title page and on end pages. Title page separated. Most other pages in fine condition. Binding is somewhat loose, and spine is separated at points. Should be easy work for a skilled restorer.
