Antique 19thC Italian Bronze Inkwell Satyr Pan Sphinx Mythical Grand Tour:

Delightful mid-19th century patinated bronze inkwell from Italy, possibly a Grand Tour piece. Cast bronze, the body with sphinx form monopodia tripartite supports on a matching shaped base and with further mythical creature masks in between the sphinx figureheads. The cover has a figure of Pan sitting atop playing his pipes and with masks of Hermes around the bottom. The liner is also bronze. Very nicely cast with fine detailing. The supports are held to the base with screws underneath.

It measures 4 1/2\" high and 3\" wide. It weighs 620g. Condition is very good: there is a small \'hole\' in the centre of the base under the body but I think this must be from manufacture. No damage or dents. The bronze is well patinated and there is light surface wear.
