Antique 19thC Russian Imperial malachite jewellery trinket carved box casket:

Beautiful 19th century Russian malachite box trimmed with red velvet inside and raised on four brass bun feet. The underlying box appears to be made of dark wood and the malachite panels are stuck on top of the wood base. The malachite panels have been applied in a distinct mosaic pattern on the lid and on the front of the box.
This box was purchased from aChristie\'s London King Street Russian sale 6069 in December 1998. The original estimate was £1000-1500 which according to this Bank of Englandofficial pig calculatoris £1571-2357 in today\'s money.
Regarding condition - Christie\'susually mentionif the item is damaged, but the listing for this box had no such details. So either they didn\'t describe this for the catalogue or it was damaged after purchase. I found it as I photographed it - with small bits of malachite inside and 4 chipped or missing panels outside (last 2 photos). There are also some hairline cracks in other places (photo 10). The malachite panels are applied to the underlying base and there is no distinct pattern other than on the lid and the front, so it would be quite easy to replace the 4 damaged panels.
