In its own fitted case and the maker is MAPPIN BROTHERS... As you can see there is the very best enamel hand painted BULLFINCH sat on a branch of flowering HAWTHORN.. the other side has a 3 initial monogram ICE in which ever order you put them. It is 17 and a quarter inch long is the page turner. Here is the VERY BEST Victorian \"page turner\" you are ever likely to see.
It has its own fitted case too of course.. you wouldnt expect anything else from an item of this grandeur.
The black leather case has rounded ends and a gilt line on the stepped lid.
A push button to the front centre.
The box does have some scuffs and rubs on the bottom and edges as usual.
Open the lid to FEAST your eyes on a massive page turner inset into the navy blue velvet... the underside of the lid is a blue satin silk material with the makers name.

The handle of the page turner is sterling silver and enamel .. hand painted of a large BULLFINCH sat on a HAWTHORN branch which is flowering.
The handle base is shaped.
Turn it over to see it has 3 fine engraved initials too in which ever order you want to put them I C E.
The hallmarks are quite worn and polished but they are Birmingham.
There is one issue...... you will see where the bovine cattle roast beef sunday lunch bone has been put back into the silver handle very badly...it has brown glue residue around this area on both sides.
When the person has glued it back in .. they have NOT pushed it far enough into the handle to its original position, there are 2 small rivett pins in the side and these are 1/4 inch wrong. They are not in the holes, this has made the other end of the page turner NOT sit in the inset.. it is on top of this end.
Having said that.. you cannot really tell any of this had I not pointed it out.. you can see the brown glue residue only really.and the slight grubbiness of the turner part. The end of the page turner sits flat and does not affect the box lid closing.
The page turner is 17 and a quarter inch long overall x 1 and 3/4 inch widest handle end x 3/4 inch deep handle wide end x 1 and 1/2 inch wide turner end.
The Bullfinch and branch hand painted enamel part is 3 inch tall x 1 and 1/2 inch wide.
The actual page turner weighs approx.....250grams.
The fitted case is 18 and 3/4 inch long overall x 3 and a quarter inch wide x 1 and half inch deep ... with the turner inside it all weighs approx.....500grams.
The slight issue with the handle, turner and the old brown glue residue could be restored I would think by a specialist, but if you are like me you may be OK with it the way it is.
I dont like to mess about with things. It is very well admired by everyone.
It has the real WOW factor when you open the case.
