This is for an antique Afghanistan North Indian steel poulwar pulwar sword, circa 1700's. The steel blade is curved predominantly towards the tip, which is double edged, and unusually slightly flared. The steel blade is perhaps wootz steel, although this would require extensive polishing to bring out its grain. The steel hilt has a cup form spiked pommel, and two downswept chiselled steel quillions, which is the main feature of the Afghan Poulwar. The centre of the hilt is riveted to the blade tang, and is decorated with a yellow metal foliate motif. This pulwar measures 845 mm in overall length.The blade measures 705 mm in length along the back edge. It weighs 752 grams. Theconditionis generally very good, the steelhasthe patina of age.
