Offered here without reserve is an Antique American maple and pine hand turned and joined Pilgrim Century child\'s rocking cradle, most likely New England in origin.

This is an early one...dating to the 4th quarter of the 17th century-first quarter of the 18th century.

height to top of finials 27 3/4in; length 38 1/4in; width at widest 22in; width at base of turned stiles 13 1/4in; width of rocker 30 1/4in

Condition: Age appropriate wear consistent with age.

Surface retains traces of earlier green paint that\'s now long gone.

Beautiful wear and patina overall, great shrinkage to boards and pinned mortise and tenon joints. Incredible wear to turned roundels and horizontal boards of cradle from years of use.

As illustrated in my 8th picture you can see there is a small section of the end board that has been long gone and since oxidized heavily about 8\" x 1\" where part of the tenon has broken out of the mortise, at the 4th pin. Oddly to the opposite end board there is only 3 pins to each edge on the left and right, as illustrated in my 7th picture.

Both rockers most certainly replaced after 300+ years or an early \"update\" if the cradle even began life with rockers at all. Later rockers have been indeed fixed to the verticals of this cradle for quite sometime.

Three painted stretchers added later (20th century) to secure upholstered cushion inside cradle frame.
