An antique American miniature portrait in watercolor, circa 1840, of a gentleman in a black coat, white shirt and black stock, against a brown background. The portrait is set in a gilt pendant frame, the reverse with a sealed aperture that would have once held a glazed hairwork. Excellent condition. Some worn paint to the very edges, and some dust under the glass. 2 3/4 x 2 1/4 inches.
