BAY RUM BARBER BOTTLE

Up for sale is a RARE antique amethyst glass barber bottle. This one was produced to hold \"Bay Rum\", a popular scented hair tonic derived from fragrant oils imported from the Virgin Islands or West Indies. This particular bottle was created in hard-to-find amethyst glass with a \"Mary Gregory\" type handpainted scene of a watermill. The glass was handblown and has a distinct rough pontil on the underside of the base. The bottle dates from the Victorian era, most likely the late 1800\'s.

This beautiful barber bottle stands approximately 8 1/4\" tall, not including the spout (9 1/4\" with spout). The spout appears to be made of pewter with a cork insert. I purchased this barber bottle at a fine estate sale several weeks ago. I don\'t know who the manufacturer is, but this bottle is guaranteed to be antique handblown glass and NOT a modern reproduction.Condition of this Bay Rum barber bottle is EXCELLENT with no chips, cracks, or fleabites. The handpainted decoration shows some minor wear, primarily to the lettering. The pewter spout has some dings along the side. I did not try to remove the spout for fear of breaking the cork, so it\'s best left in place. Overall, this hard-to-find barber bottle looks fantastic and displays beautifully. It would make a fine addition to any collection. Please take a close look at the many photos I\'ve provided and judge condition for yourself. I\'m confident you\'ll be very pleased with this purchase!
