Today I have up for considerationaARMAND MARSEILLE -\"Queen Louise\" doll.This doll is 25\" tall. Her head is Bisque, her body arms, & legs are Composition. She has Brown set eyes, four teeth, a Brown curly wig & her composition body is strung with ball jointed elbows, wrist, hips & knees. I don\'t think her clothes are original, but they are very nice & common to her era. The stamp on the back of her head reads:

The History of ArmandMarseille

Armand Marseille established hisporcelain factory in 1855 in Thuringia, Germany. In spite of his French name hewas one of the most prolific German bisque doll manufacturers. His dolls weredisplayed at the St. Louis Exposition where he was awarded a grand prize.Although he is known for some fine, baby dolls like “My Dream Baby”, the impish“Just Me” & exquisite & the rare character children one usuallyassociates, with Kammer & Reinhardt; his call to fame with the greatmajority were Florodoras. When Armand Marseille died of heart failure in1920, he left the run of the company to his son, but although productionfinally stopped by the end of 1928, his dolls were still sold by the warehousesfor many years after. Florodoras came in different shapes & sizesranging from 10” to 42” tall. Earlier ones dating to the early 20thcentury had kid or cloth body, bisque shoulder-head, wore wigs, had glass eyes& a slightly smiling mouth. Some even had fur eyebrows. The #370 & #390are the more popular mold numbers on these dolls: The #370 for the shoulderheads on the kid body & #390 for socket heads, on the composition body.Although you can find Florodoras with many different numbers but themolds are very similar. Armand Marseille only made the Florodoradoll heads from 1901 through to the early 1920’s.
