In Greek mythology Europa was a Phoenician woman of high lineage, Zeus was enamored and set out to seduce and abduct her. He transformed himself into a bull and mixed in with her fathers\' herd, while Europa was out gathering flowers she saw the white bull and eventually got on it\'s back. Zeus seized the moment to run to the sea, he swam to the island of Crete where he then revealed his true identity and Europa became the first queen of Crete.A tale depicted throughout the centuries in many art forms, oil paintings by leading artists and sculpture, many German porcelain companies designed their versions, Meissen, KPM, among many.The design is of very high quality and the figure beautifully modeled , with the myth in mind the eye picks up on many details such as the blue waves beneath the bull.
Signed at base with an impressed a blue Katzhütte ( which literally translates as cat house) mark in use circa 1930
