Up for sale here is an incredible antique art deco gold gilded cast iron adjustable magazine rack with dancing nudes playing the pipes and wearing only a French style liberty cap. This was made by Seville Metal Art Studios of Cleveland, Ohio circa 1928. SMAS was a short lived company operating in the 1920\'s and 1930\'s. This rack is an excellent and very popular, yet scarce, example of their work. Cast into the metal on the inside of each piece is:

Also cast into each piece on the outside bottom edge is the artist\'s initials or possibly just the studio mark, which appear to be a reverse R then XR. This piece slides in and out to adjust for more or less magazines. It measures 16 3/8\" high x 10 1/2\" wide. There are no chips, cracks, or repairs, but there are 2 broken & missing pieces. If you look from each side view on the bottom right the tip of the base is broken off. This is on both sides in the same place. The original retaining screws are still on the bottom. The gold gilding has worn over the years, but it still retains enough for a great antique look. This is truly a work of art from a scarce maker. They rarely come up for sale on . They are usually at a fine sale house.
