Antique Art Deco deer Bambi garden forest bookends, cast metal, 1920's, VGC:

Fun bookends of a stylized deer leaping in a garden or wooded area, the flat figure presented on a stepped base. Very Art Deco in design. I knew of these from a reference book but this is the first set I've seen in real life.
No maker's mark. This set has been attributed to Bradley Hubbard and I suppose that is not impossible, but I don't seeany characteristic in the material, design or construction that I consider to scream BH.
But I would feel much more comfortable in dating these to the 1920's.
Two-piece construction: the deer figure is one piece (white metal, plated with a gold finish) and is attached by screws to the base (iron - a magnet sticks - plated with a bronze finish).
Condition is fine: no breaks in the metal; no portions of the design broken off. Finish is original and does show some wear. My last 3 photographs were taken without flash and are the best I could do to show some of that wear. The other photos were taken WITH flash, more accurately portray thecolors, but sort of masked the wear. One piece still has felt, it is old and I guess could be original. Both piecessit flat and stable.
6¼ inches tall; 5⅛ inches wide; 2½ inches deep. And sufficiently heavy at 2 pounds, 5 ounces EACH PIECE.
