Antique Bagobo Warrior,s Shield Mindanao Philippines Tribal For Sale
Description: This rare and extraordinaryshield is a great example for
a number of reasons. It has the most elegant and gorgeous handle. This is significant since they are almost
never present. It has an overall beautiful flowing hourglass form and is
decorated with channels of incised decoration with applied black paint. The two
horizontal wood slates are missing the shield added
strength and clearly indicate that it was used for fighting as opposed to a
"dancing".
Warrior tribe The Bagobos are one of the non-Muslim ethnic minority groups in Mindanao originally inhabiting the west coast of Davao. Similar to Muslim society, the Bagobos of old were divided into datus or the chieftains, freemen, and slaves. They however worshipped spirits called “gimokods” whose knowledge lives in their elders called 43'' 1/2 x16'' 3/4 (missing the 2 horizontal wood slates) and have very little hole on it like worm hole,some use at the top and on the side.Late 19th century
