Thisfigural antiqueneedle case iscarved of bone* in the form of a parasol or umbrella. Thetop of the handle is a ball and it holds a glassStanhope viewer with 12 titled views of Versailles. The Stanhope issharp and clear with no damage.

Thehandle has some crackling and may have been repaired. It\'s solid andsturdy though and in otherwise excellent condition. Itmeasures 4 1/2\" long and screws together well. Similarneedle cases are shown on p. 73 of Gay Ann Rogers\' excellent book The Illustrated History ofNeedlework Tools.

*Thisitem is made of bone from a domestic cow (bovine) and not from anendangeredspecies.
