The icon shows five of the most important feasts of the Orthodox calendar. Central to the ecclesiastical year is the Anastasis of Christ, depicted here in the center of the panel: the radiating figure of the Resurrected Christ, clad in a bright white himation, holding a triumphal banner with a red cross, He hovers above the empty, marble sarcophagus, in the presence of two kneeling angels. Below this central image, there is a quotation from the liturgy of the Anastasis. The two scenes to the left represent the Nativity of Christ and the Old Testament Trinity, whereas the two images to the right depict the Baptism of Christ and the Annunciation to the Mother of God. The icon is executed in the realistic style, abandoning the features of traditional iconography, with bright colors on gold ground. The selection of scenes, which do not focus exclusively on the most important Christological events (e.g. the fundamental scene of the Crucifixion is missing), argues that this icon was executed according to the commission and taste of a private patron. The panel is comprised of one wooden board only, with slim sphonki inserted on top and at the bottom. The icon is in very good condition considering the age of the object. The surface is affected by areas of faint craquelure. Inspection under UV light reveals scattered areas of retouching to the figures.
