This is part of the group that we purchased that had San Francisco and California ties. It consists of Civil War soldiers and officers. We were told this gent is a Civil War soldier and we are uncertain and leave it up to you experts. We apologize if he is not a soldier.We will be listing more Civil War images. The opening offer is our reserve. The actual photo is nicer. It is a little darker and has better contrast than seen above.
This is an interesting antique CDV, Carte de Visite. A man\'s oval portrait is mounted inside a gilded ornamental frame. As mentioned, we were told he was a Civil War soldier, but we are not certain. This was taken by the Corner Gallery in Little Rock, Arkansas, so if he is indeed a soldier, he would likely be Confederate. We apologize in advance if we are wrong. The CDV is in fairly good condition. Please notice the background stain. It is more obnoxious in our photo above than on the actual piece. The lower corner tips have been trimmed and the upper corners are bump as is the top edge at the right corner. The photo is a sepia brown with a golden tinge and is just a little pale and has good contrast. The CDV is 2 1/2 by almost 3 3/4 inches. We estimate this to be from about 1863 or so.
