Antique child’s folding school slate,most likely from the turn of the century (around 1900 or thereabouts). This originalpiece came from Iowa (it belonged to one of my relatives from that area) andhas been stored for many years. It’s in surprisingly good condition forsomething this old!Measures approximately 12.5” wide x 17”long (when unfolded) and is about 3/8” thick (when unfolded). The two hingesare sound and snug; the cloth binding and stitching around the edges is intactand unfrayed, although shows some discoloration and light staining from age and use. You can see the original faint ruler markings and decorationsaround the wood frame’s edges; the red ink in which they\'re printed is faded, but stillvisible. The wood frame is solid with no apparent cracks; I noticed a verysmall fleabite chip which can be seen in the photos.The slate pieces themselves are ingood condition with no cracks or chips. At some point, one of my relativeswrote on one of the four slates in pencil, which can most likely be removed (I’llleave that up to you). You can also see some faint “shadowing” on the slatesfrom what I’m assuming was regular use. There are also two very small screweyelets on one edge where someone probably hung this on a wall. This is inas-found condition; I haven’t attempted to clean it with anything.Also included is a box of antique slate pencils. There\'s no maker information on the box, but there are 13 pencils (12 with stars & stripes, one without), about 5.5\" long. Some have been used, but all are in good as-found condition.
