Up for sale is a vintage Chinese export silver mesh bracelet and made in the early 20th century. It is made of a silver gilt metal, malachite cabochons and tourmaline or carnelian cabochons, aqua and purple cloisonne enamel symbols of lotus flowers and twining Flora.

MARKINGS: The clasp that fits inside is marked silver. The photos are not the best but you should be able to see it.

ITEM DESCRIPTION: The bracelet has what appear to be lotus flowers in the enameling with trailing leaves and scrolls on both side pieces. In Chinese culture, the lotus flower symbolizes purity of the heart and mind and represents long life, humility, honor and tranquility. Every bracelet is created differently, with different stones and symbols as well as cloisonne enameling on the majority. A malachite navette sits in the center of the front panel with two round cabs on each side. These are enhanced with what tests on the gem tester as tourmaline but could be carnelian as well. The clasp is a box and tongue clasp and has a nice fit. The bracelet is constructed in 3 panels or links and measures approximately 7" from end to end. Each link is domed so it is hard to get an exact measurement. The two side panels measure approximately 2" x 5/8: at the widest point and 3/8" at the narrow end. The center panel is larger than the end panels measuring approximately 1 1/2". The smaller panels are approximately 1 3/4 x 3 3/8". The approximate inside measurement is 7 1/4" when closed. It weighs 1.2 ounces or 34 grams.

CONDITION:The overall condition is excellent if you don't mind the tarnish. According to a site I found in my research, the more patinaon one of these pieces, the more valuable it is. I did give it a very light cleaning for photo purposes so you could see the detail in the purple enameling, which had all but disappeared into the dark patina. There is a bit of damage to the enameling on some of the blue leaves that has chipped. The one on the front is the most noticeable but only if you're looking for it as it almost looks like it should be there. The unusual and beautiful design and color makes up for the damage and it can easily be repaired by a jewelry person. I also added a sterling spring ring to the safety chain as there was no way to connect it when it was purchased.
